The workshop provides an opportunity for managers to discuss the issues covered in the six webinars. The focus is on discussion. Since we begin by reviewing the webinar content, partcipants need not have completed the webinar programme.
The six webinars covered these topics:
- Why the present approach to recruitment and selection is broken and, in detail, the changes needed;
- Why defining the right jobs is key to recruitment and selection, how jobs can be crafted to provide maximum motivation;
- Why the selection criteria must be developed early in the search activity and, in detail, the criteria to use;
- The search activity, where to look and the search methods, extending into what to do to attract candidates to you;
- Interviewing, testing and other tools using the criteria to optimally predict who will excel; and
- Making offers and how to close the deal and ensure that the best accept the firm’s job offer.
In the workshop, we briefly review the key points of the six webinars and then pose a number of big questions to stimulate further questions and discussion.

About the Presenters
John is an alumnus of Loughborough University of Technology, the Open University Business School and Birkbeck, University of London, in engineering, management and organisational psychology. He has run technology and engineering companies and led R&D activities in SMEs and multi-nationals for over 30 years. He has been instrumental in driving public and corporate policy across technology and engineering for firms and governments. In a global career, John has led teams in 32 countries. He is a Chartered Manager and a Chartered Engineer.
Over the past 30 years Sue has led the human resource function in several firms, heading up and driving organisational improvement and change across chemicals, aerospace, education and charities sectors. She has been instrumental in shaping relationships between people and organisations in pursuit of growth and prosperity for all. Sue is an alumna of Newcastle University, De Montfort University and the Open University in education, human resource management and psychology & economics. She is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD.
