National Minimum Wage Rates

National minimum wage figures for UK employers from October 2009 to date. This data is updated whenever legislation changes. The hourly rate for the minimum wage depends on your age and whether you’re an apprentice.

April 2017

From 1st April 2017 the new hourly rates are:

  • £7.50 - National Living Wage for workers aged 25 and over.
  • £7.05 - the main rate for workers aged 21-24
  • £5.60 - the 18-20 year olds rate
  • £4.05 - the 16-17 year olds rate
  • £3.50 - the apprentice rate (for apprentices under 19, or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship)

October 2016

From 1st October 2016 the new hourly rates are:

  • £7.20 - National Living Wage for workers aged 25 and over.
  • £6.95 - the main rate for workers aged 21-24
  • £5.55 - the 18-20 year olds rate
  • £4.00 - the 16-17 year olds rate
  • £3.40 - the apprentice rate (for apprentices under 19, or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship)

October 2015

From 1st October 2015 the new hourly rates are:

  • £7.20 - National Living Wage for workers aged 25 and over (new rate effective from 1st April 2016).
  • £6.70 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
  • £5.30 - the 18-20 year olds rate
  • £3.87 - the 16-17 year olds rate
  • £3.30 - the apprentice rate (for apprentices under 19, or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship)

October 2014

From 1st October 2014 the new hourly rates are:

  • £6.50 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
  • £5.13 - the 18-20 year olds rate
  • £3.79 - the 16-17 year olds rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
  • £2.73 - the apprentice rate (for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship)
